As for fullbacks. There's an aboriginee called Walker at the Titans. He's young. I bet they would loan him for a season. He is amongst if not the fastest player (s) in the NRL. His main forte is attack. He would go better in SL than the NRL.
This guy?
"Shannon has been playing poorly and does not deserve selection," a forthright Cartwright said. "There are a few options, including Ben Jeffery. Mat Rogers will stay at five-eighth because he and Scott Prince have worked well together there."

Walker, The Courier-Mail's 2007 Queensland Cup player of the year, has played only three NRL games this year, and in recent weeks has struggled in the Toyota Cup under-20 side, particularly under the high ball.

There are suggestions the 19-year-old has not come to terms with the demands of being a professional footballer but club officials remain confident he will prove a good investment. "We will be patient with Shannon," Titans managing director Michael Searle said.

"We have signed him until 2012 and no one here doubts his ability. We'll have a chat to him at the end of the season about the way things have gone this year but it's just one of those things. Some players come through quicker than others."

That is the one Geoff. I think his problems are typical of aboriginee young players. Walker would thrive ina moreattack minded competition like SL. He is startling in terms of speed, acceleration, evasion.

Interestingly Gold Coast released Chris Sandow who was a junior kangaroo and he went to South Sydney straight in their first teram at 7 and everybody now raves about him.

he got better though through the game
Both Fielden and Hock missed vital last tackles last night which led directly to trys but nobody is complaining about them! Lets see how he goes next year in the second season back from his horrendous injuries.
As an aside does anyone know how Ashton is performing this season now that Northampton are back in the RU first division?

Hock did not miss a tackle. Fielden did but he and his fellow forwards were otherwise outstanding.

Phelps and Smith both missed tackles

I think Hock didn't even attempt a tackle when Cats scored on wigans left hand side (break by wilson I think). Smith tried to cover and was brushed off - who then proceeded to give Hock a filthy stare - and probably a good talking to.............

He did but he was wrong. Smith was the nominated tackler.

I must confess to believing that Mathers could be a good full back for us, but my faith is tested every time anyone runs at him one on one. He is actually not bad on his own line, but in open field he is an embarrassment. Can't they coach someone to improve their technique? We were taught to offer the runner the outside so that you can get him side on as he goes past you.
So, when Wilkin broke through Mathers should have shepherded him one way or another and had a go side on. WHY CAN HE NOT LEARN THIS?
His attack is getting better and will get better yet.
