I believe the captain role is over valued. We changed captains, no difference. We had the best player in SL, he made a difference but even Trent could not turn water into wine.
The best teams have a leadership group with several outstanding elder pros.
Lockers Stand up and act like a Captain
Re: Lockers Stand up and act like a Captain
Correct it's the core of the team that is lacking, all captains that we think of as being great at Wigan had back up Hanley great player and Captain but even he would struggle in the present set up . Like Geoff said it's higher up than what a change of Captain would achieve.cpwigan wrote:I believe the captain role is over valued. We changed captains, no difference. I don't think the role is over valued but what people miss when they insist Lockers must remain as captain is how the responsibility affects his game.cpwigan wrote:I believe the captain role is over valued. He has yet to reproduce his GB form for Wigan and when Millward made him captain this was coming back from a virtually a season out with injury which made it a stupid move IMO.
It was a typical Millward publicity stunt IMO and Lockers is just not suited to the role. Since then Noble hasn't got the sense or the guts to give the job to someone else. Anyone else would be better from Lockers games point of view IMO because then he would not have the responsibility.
He would be far better off without it as a player IMO.
Lockers doesn't qualify on that score so why is he captain? The best teams have a leadership group with several outstanding elder pros.

I would have to disagree Dave. I think as a role model Lockers is an outstanding professional.

Re: Lockers Stand up and act like a Captain
If a captain does not make any difference then why do every sport have one..... Well its simple, they do make a difference and the better ones make a very big difference..
It is also simple that Lockers is not a captain, never has been never will be...
Pick any player in the Wigan team and they may not do any better, but the facts are they can not do any worse...
We are in a right state at the moment and if we can do the simple things correctly they may just make the harder ones a little better to handle..
CHANGE THE CAPTAIN MR NOBLE

Why are we going over old ground again :conf: All this was said last year and it didn't change anything. Until the current regime is changed or altered the captain will stay the same so lets stop harping on about it :conf:
Re: Lockers Stand up and act like a Captain
So was Radlinski but he wasn't suited to captaincy. Neither is Lockers IMO.cpwigan wrote:I would have to disagree Dave. I think as a role model Lockers is an outstanding professional.

sorry didnt know we had time scales on topics or once mentioned it had not to be mentioned again..Fujiman wrote:Why are we going over old ground again :conf: All this was said last year and it didn't change anything. this needs to be put into a sticky so no confusion is made again
Re: Lockers Stand up and act like a Captain
Perhaps, though that might have been due to his position at fullback rather than his personality.DaveO wrote:So was Radlinski but he wasn't suited to captaincy.cpwigan wrote:I would have to disagree Dave. I think as a role model Lockers is an outstanding professional.
So who would you suggest? IMO, it has to be someone who's on the field for the full 80 minutes (unless we go back to dual captaincy), which rules out the rest of the forwards.Neither is Lockers IMO.
Dave
Of the backs, the only candidate that seems viable is Richards, and I think a winger is too far from the action to fulfil the role adequately.
Re: Lockers Stand up and act like a Captain
A captain was historically far more important than he is now. Such was the importance that very sometimes the role was combined into a captain/coach role.
