I always rated him as an attacker and he adds speed to any team he plays for. His defence was poor but nowhere nerar as bad as Mathers. His attitude? iffy but not something I ever really worried about personally.
Yeah but I sometimes feel like Pat is wasted at fullback when you see some of the stuff he does out on the wing, like when he set that try up for Tommy last Friday!

I wish we could duplicate him!

I think he offers more at FB Cherry. As an experienced player etc and his catching, defence are exceptional. Might shock a lot of people but I have never been overly impressed by him as a winger. The late break v Salford was good but whoever put Ratchford on the wing for Salford wants their head testing. He missed umpteen tackles.

he looks bigger and stronger than when he left us, and still have that pace and support ability he left with. If he can come back and be happy and show desire to win matches and trophys for WWRLFC and not chris ashton then i'd take him back. i'd have him in our squad way ahead of phelps, amos and pryce, and i don't even want to accept mathers as in our squad now or ever.

That isavery good point Mark. I was thinking the other day how many injuries both Pryce and Chev Walker have suffered post Union compared to pre Union. I cannot believe their conditioning is so backward but there seems to be a possible link re players becoming injury prone and having had a spell in union.

He is still fast, his attitude should be managed by the coach...surely hes not the only ego in the league and they are all managed.

Agree totally. Shaun Ainscough was unfairly IMO labelled for his attitude. Lee Smith gets criticised similarly too.

Think he is a great player but i wouldnt have him back.He goes to union just for the money i guess and now he cant get in the side he is crying to come back.Tell him to p--s off .Radlinski was approched time and time again and stayed loyal to Wigan and he could have named his price at any club.

Jason Robinson and Sean Long both had poor attitudes in their early days - look where that got them! Ashton just needs managing properly. He has got one thing that money and experience can't buy - SPEED.

Ashton hasn't been too happy at Northampton since he started playing for them but that is probably down to his poor attitude.

He is a very talented player and he could play anywhere in the back line if he put his mind to it. If he really wanted to come back then I wouldn't mind having him in the squad, it never hurts to have a few extra players but Ashton will have to take a major pay cut to sign for Wigan again.

I heard a few weeks ago that Salford were looking to sign him.

I slated him when he signed for them and had the photo with the shirt, having said all that I would have him back in a flash. A player who with time could trouble any team at any level he could do as good if not better job than most of our imports and seeing he came through our junior set up would also help squad wise. He would be above Mathers, Pryce, Phelps,Smith and you could put a good argument on him being more valuble than Bailey also at the moment he would be ahead of Roberts on what we have seen although I do think Amos will be class once he settles . If we could release Mathers Phelps and Smith and the odd youngster out on loan and bring in Ashton I would be happy he would offer us much more than all.
