There is no point Wigan having a war chest, when they were already going to spend up to the salary cap. The transfer fee money is irrelevant, as it does not give us an extra penny towards the cap. The only relevant figures for these purposes are Faz's salary and Brian's.

At the moment, we have a chunk of Faz's salary for to spend this year (though, as I have complined before, because of the timing of his sale to the dark side, there is much less available to us than there should have been), and the whole amount for next. If we release Carney, we would have his wages available to us, as well. Is he well paid? Was he that famous when he signed his existing deal?

The key issue is what to do with the Faz/Carney legacy...

On the recruitment side, if O'Loughlin and Hock recover ok, and Hansen and Allen develop as we hope, we will be well placed for second rows next year. If Hargreaves grows, we will only need an extra prop for the pack to look very strong.

In the backs, we are probably stuck with our okish halves for the foreseeable, which leaves the 3/4s and full back. We need a further strike player, to replace Carney.

So, the question to my mind is whether we can find and buy the extra prop and the extra strike player we need with the Faz/Carney money. Our success over the next few years entirely depends upon the answer to that question.

what we need is two big guys to grind out the yards, as it,s only a matter of time before jerry or jerome get injured or burnt out with thier work load.

My own personal opinion is that contracts mean nothing these days.If the player is under contract it is a tool for the club to negotiate over his contract and at least receive some money for that player. The same is happening with Brian Carney, no one wants to see him leave but if he is to go then he must still be under contract with Wigan or they will get nothing for him at all.
And why do you think they should get anything for him?

If Wigan want him as a player because of his ability why sell him and lose that ability? The "price" you pay for having that that ability for the duration of his contract is no transfer fee at the end of it. So what? They know this is how the system works. Given Wigan don't need the money they are a club that can afford to do this.

They don't have to sell the family silver to stay affloat as Wakefield did with Ellis.
South Sydney are offering big Bucks for players next year as they have sold there ground and have money to burn, along with the Sean Mcrae connection i personally sadly think it spells the end of Brian Carney at Wigan.
The club (well Mo) has to act in the interests of the club by putting the best squad he can together. He says he wants more silverware well he won't get it by selling the teams best players.
I for one would like to see him perform in oz along with a few other SL players this can only benefit the GB sqaud, contreversial i know but nothing will hold back any player with that type of ambition
The GB squad is about to be dismantled. They are going to split it into the home nations. As to holding Carney back. He isn't being held back he is being held to his contract which is not the same thing! he can do what he likes after 2006. Pre Bosman he couldn't so he is in a better position as a player now than his predecessors were.

 Trouble is DaveO, Mo it seems, will leave the Warriors after this season, rumour, and some press in Australia have linked him to several clubs down under, so don't expect him to act in our interests, he will be thinking about next year now and his own future !
I think we have all talked about this before, when he left for the promised land of the RFL, and then when he came back complaining about some of the rules he help to establish.

I for one will be glad to seek the back of him, I just hope he takes Betts with him, this will give us a chance to start from scratch and build for the future !!!!

I wondered when the calls for the coach of the month to be sacked would start again.

DaveO made yet another good point - if every player we had was got rid of because of injury, we'd have no-one left! Yes, Brian has had more than his fair share, but so have Melling, Hock, O'Loughlin, Sculthorpe, Moran, Newton, Orr, Dallas, Radlinski and Farrell in the last year or so. We can't get rid of all of them because they're seen as "injury-prone"!

 But that is exactly my point, injury prone or badly prepared, good coach, bad coach, poor players good players, you takes your choice, but usually this sort of thing starts from the top, and if something is'nt done we will slide, 3 good result don't make a team or a coach, we could quite easily have lost all 3.

we need consistency in team and tactics.

If you actually bothered to read the rugby press i think you'll find that those rumours linking mo down under were complete and utter cr*p.
Oh so sorry to spoil your day

 That is the worst news I've heard for minutes  As we all know a denial usually means no smoke without fire, MO has said in the past that he wants to end his career in Austrailia, he's never away from the place, of course he's going, and the sooner the better, just hope he takes Betts with him as shark fodder !!!!
