Are you a journalist? Cutting and pasting paragraphs to make a story!GeoffN wrote:You rather contradict yourself with those two paragraphs, bearing in mind the way the Reserves are playing, and the results Wane is getting with them.R Douglas wrote: I personally don't think Shaun Wane is the right man for the lead role...
A good coach gets the best out of the person/team he coaches, and I don't believe that this is currently happening, by some distance. Results are what count, and no one can be of the opinion that the current or previous season's results are anywhere near good enough.
Didn't change the context, just cut the part that wasn't relevant to my pointR Douglas wrote:Are you a journalist? True, but we've taken on coaches who have got results elsewhere at the top level: Nobby with the Bulls, Millward with Saints, etc, and that hasn't worked, so why not give a chance to someone who's proved he can work within our system to get results - of course it's a lower level than the first team, but by the same token he's not got the benefit of the same quality players.
Getting results in the reserves is not the same as taking control of the Biggest Club in RL and giving it the shake up that it requires. We almost certainly will have to take a chance on someone, and I was simply stating that Shaun's example as a player (plenty of guts and ability, but poor preparation and discipline), is not what we currently need at he very top of our club.
That said (contradicitng again!?) I definitely agree that he could do a better job than Noble!
Some would argue that neither Millward or Noble knew how to build a squad which is what Wigan required at the time. Mick Potter springs to mind as a coach who has shown he can actually build a squad rather than just inherit one.GeoffN wrote:True, but we've taken on coaches who have got results elsewhere at the top level: Nobby with the Bulls, Millward with Saints, etc, and that hasn't worked, so why not give a chance to someone who's proved he can work within our system to get results - of course it's a lower level than the first team, but by the same token he's not got the benefit of the same quality players.

I would love this to happen as hge would kick the dead wood out. BUT at present it wont happen due to his personal cercumstances and his roll with the lions and WaspsOAMJS wrote:let Shawn have a go at it

I think results show how true that is, we were better with the original squad Nobby inherited from Millward (with the addition of Dobson & Fielden) than we are now with what is entirely the team Nobby's built.MrDave wrote:Some would argue that neither Millward or Noble knew how to build a squad which is what Wigan required at the time. I think Wigan have gone beyond the time where they need a coach who can build a squad and need a coach who can get the best out of what they are given. Wigan have a lot of good players but they don't come together to form a good team.
That's perhaps about right, but at present we need a massive improvement just to get up to "average" status.old hooker wrote:While Millward and Noble have not been good enough. Our squad is average at best and we need 6 players at least to compete for a top 2 finish
