In which case they aren't being coached or supervised to wrestle properly. That is so amateurish as to beggar belief. Makes you wonder whether the new set up knows what it is doing.

Sorry bout his injury and hope he makes a speedy recovery. On the other hand ......... thank God we didn't renew his sponsorship!!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Strange conclusion to jump to based on such a small piece of evidence. My cousin dislocated his shoulder in his sleep does that make all bed makers amateurish? What do you want the new coaching set-up to do? molly coddling the players to avoid injuries is far more amateurish in a professional contact sport and will have the opposite effect when it comes to playing games.Exiled Wiganer wrote:In which case they aren't being coached or supervised to wrestle properly. Gareth Thomas before his first game: "You wanna spend 10 mins getting smashed up by these guys..Big dudes here.."

The biggest Room is the Room for improvement.
The best form of defence is attack!!
Out of the black and into the red, remember you don't get anything for two in a bed!!

Totally agree TEW , club can't afford to keep a player thats not ever gonna realise his potential. Feel sorry for him injury wise, he's bit like Nigel Wright, lets hope kp gets fit proves us all wrong.

I have never heard of someone having difficulty tackling because of their size,,It doesnt seem to bother Crabtree,Peacock,Mason,Inglis, etc, etc.cpwigan wrote:Training is now more intense and contact based under the new regime. I daresay injuries will happen. I will speculate that he was trying to make a tackle. Being so big it is hard for KP to get in the perfect body position when making textbook tackles and thus his joints etc are not supported to their optimum.

The best tacklers are invariably short in height. The classic examples being Dennis Boyd from bygone Wigan days. In the modern era David Gillespie and Trevor Gillmeister are the obvious examples. Steve Folkes would be another.
Tall players tend to make tackles ball and all by smothering the ball carrier. They struggle to bend their back to pull off tackles with the correct technique and thus simply envelop their opponent. When players train or warm up they have to tackle correctly often v pads. Ingame time the really hurtful tacklers are always short in stature becayuse they can transfer that technique to the game. Several of the players you mention are noted for being poor defensively; Mason and Crabtree. They are too big like Pryce and also lack agility.

Re: K Pryce Injured and Out
I appreciate I am slow getting back on this, but my point about dislocating a shoulder while wrestling comes from the years I did wrestling in Wigan. If they are being coached properly then this should never happen, unless someone deliberately puts pressure on the joint, because the grips and positions they are in should not enable them to apply that pressure.
If he did it in a collision in a tackle that is a different matter, or, if he had a history of his shoulder popping out that made him particularly susceptible to it then he could dislocate it shaking hands, but if the latter is the case then he shouldn't have been doing the exercise in the first place.
I have never coached wrestling but have done and watched plenty of it, so I would defer to any wrestling coaches on this but I stand by my original point.
Not sure how you can dislocate your shoulder in bed, save if you have done it so frequently you'd be at risk of its popping out with a big sneeze.
Shame for the lad, let's hope they keep him aerobically fit in the meantime (indeed that might be what he needs), but if they are dislocating shoulders doing standard wrestling moves then we have amateurs in charge.

Re: K Pryce Injured and Out
"Wrestling" in rugby is not the same as wrestling the sport. I imagine, putting pressure on joints is one of the things they try to do. They are trying to stick their opponents on their backs, but I imagine the starting points are wherever you end up after the initial contact of a tackle.
