Is anybody else
Re: Is anybody else
I think reserved seats is not the answer. RL increasingly has a crowd issue and Wigan are no difference. Far firmer stewarding is the answer. Make the idiots sit down and behave. If not throw them out and ban them.

Exactly CPwigan, the stewards are too soft on these people, more bothered about telling an older supporter not to stand on stairs even if on way to toilet and a try is scored

Re: Is anybody else
To my shame I lost my temper on Friday with a couple of senior steward as they kept repeating that the club wanted the drums so they can't act. Fine the club wants the drums to raise the atmosphere - but the yob behaviour associated with it that has increased this season should be addressed by the stewards but if they (reading between the lines) are also afraid to act they should recommend a few police are present for a couple of games.

That is all it would take a few policemen stood at the top of the South stand with some stewards.

Re: Is anybody else
John Kear described the atmosphere at the Wakefield game as like a cathedral - especially after Roberts' injury. He had a point, and it was curiously subdued against Quins during the first half when Wigan actually played some good rugby.
I thought the drumming and atmosphere created by the South stand in the second half was good. The South stand fans were being the 18th man - as we all should.
Sadly it didn't work though as Quins turned in the best game of their season and we didn't have an answer.
That however is very different from bad behaviour. We don't need it at Wigan and the Rugby League doesn't need it at all. Tougher policies and stewarding are the answer in grounds all over. If anyone knows who behaves badly they must report to Wigan. We don't need that.
But don't throw the baby out with the bath water - we do need a boisterous and fun atmosphere at Wigan and all grounds

I am sorry, but the club must take full responsibility for this. It has been mentioned umpteen times on this site about the problems in the south stand this season and nothing has changed at all. My wife and youngest daughter came with me earlier in the season but will not go again due to the behaviour of the yobs at the back of the stand.Intimidated By the South Stand wrote: That was one of the most aggessive atmospheres I have witnessed in 30 years or more of watching live sport and had nothing to do with support.
Left at 0930 because my partner had a run in with one young suppoter who "objected" with the support of his mates to us asking him to stop banging the seat behind us in time with the drumming.
The stewards don't do anything because and I quote a senior steward "the drums are what the club want".
Thoughts and comments please.
It is there for all to see game after game, and I do not believe that the officials at the club are not aware of it.
The majority of the fans in the stand are decent supporters and behave as such, and should not be subjected to this type of intimidation.
The club need to act, and act quickly, before the south stand becomes a no go area for decent supporters.
Re: Is anybody else
I've just had a long phone conversation with Mick Hogan about this problem.
In a nutshell, the club is aware of the problem, and things are being done - there is a permanent CCTV camera focused on the area (and others elsewhere of course), and on Friday some people were refused admission and some were ejected, but they can only act on specific information or observation, so again I urge people to contact the club if they can identify specific troublemakers.

Well, its all gone peaceful behind us in the East Stand this season. From what I have read on here, the idiots who regaled us for the last few seasons must have relocated to where the real action lies!cherry.pie wrote:
The constant drumming and chanting of the same song over and over again however (like the Barmy Army chant) drives me absolutely crazy.
It was the several references to 'Barmy Army' that convinced me but if that song drives you round the twist, just wait till one of their shared brain cells remembers the Twelve Days of Christmas. You will wish you had never heard of Palea'aesina!!

Re: Is anybody else
We left a message for Mick Hogan on the general enquiries on the Warriors website on Friday night. He has e-mailed us today, pretty much repeating this, including an offer to call him if we would like to. Despite many people telling us Mick will respond, we are still very impressed with the speed and considered response. Mick added to us that the club will be talking to the drummers and keeping a closer eye on the behavior of the few in the next couple of home matches. An enjoyable lively atmosphere without the aggrevation is what Mick is after and that would be very welcome for us all.GeoffN wrote:I've just had a long phone conversation with Mick Hogan about this problem.

I spoke to one or two people who sit in that area today. They thought it was hilarious how they dragged the flag sideways and could possibly injure the people who pull it back down to the bottom. Very odd.
I hope the clubs stops this throwing food/drink/objects down the stand. I sit too far away for it to personally affect me but if I was getting drink and food thrown at me I would be pretty peed off.
