To be honest im new to RL this year and have been to most games home and away, and its almost impossible to learn the rules when the refereeing is so one side a decision is given one way to one team and not to the other.
And then the next match I watch the ref is not pulling up the same stuff as the last ref.
Ive considered applying to become a ref...
As I don't know the rules, have no experience! I don't think any one will notice!
But I can blow a whistle and be consistent in my decisions!

This will be an issue for you, to be an RFL ref at super league level you need to be inconsistent with decisions, the only consistency required is to penalise Wigan more than the other team, beyond that inconsistency is the way forward. But I can blow a whistle and be consistent in my decisions!

Re: Penalties, penalties,penalties,penalties,penalties,penalties.
The game is in danger of being ruined by too many penalties.
Watching the NRL compared to SL there are so few pens in NRl , even though similar things happen which would be penalised here.
The effect on game is that it flows so much better, teams have to work hard to get out of their own half and not get an easy ride upfield.
In Sl we are getting so used to pens being awarded the fans are getting on refs backs if a player doesn't roll off the tackle almost before he's been tackled.
A team should have to work hard to get out of their own half - not be let off the hook because a ref arbitarily (although usually on tackle 5) decides it's time he gave a pen for a player spending half a second too long on the floor - probably because his arm is stuck under the player.
If a penalty isn't worth giving 7 times out of 10 then it shouldn't be awarded at all - we would see far better games, with the better teams in attack and defence being rewarded if they followed that simple rule.
Only dangerous play or obvious rule breaks should be penalised, anything marginal should be let go, benefit of doubt due to the nature of such a high speed contact game. As fans we would be able to concentrate on watching decent rugby rather than moaning about the ref

I`ve E mailed the RFL re Silverwood and Bentham , Stuart cummings who in my opinion is the problem , has replied to me , but defended his referees .
AlBert yesterday was inept and in my opinion didn`t know the rules of the game or the definition of a referee.
Cummings now won`t reply to my Mails , but if a concerted effort is kept up about our abysmal refs , something may be done by the RFL .

You don't see the NRL refs, in fact in 1st State of Origin it was aprox 60 min when i noticed them, maybee i am not observant.
Our game has become more about the ref than the athletes taking part.I agree we all want to watch a good entertaining game of 80min action, but if you assume that an average time lost for a penalty is 30 sec[min],20 pens in game =10 min lost action.
On Stuart Cummings to sort it out, heard him on GMR[thurs]when asked about incidents in Leeds game he said,"Sam a super talent, brilliantly sidestepped Peacock left foot /right foot, allPeacock could do was stick an arm out," [so it was not intentional]and it seems to me it was Sam's fault.
Cummings could not sort out Jelly babies from peanuts,so dont hold your breath.

Re: Penalties, penalties,penalties,penalties,penalties,penalties.
In spite of some of the comments above the idea that we have "bent refs." on the Super League is both wrong and slanderous.
Any fan of any club is bound to interpret the game in their own favour, and of course we at Wigan have had some dodgy decisions against us, but so have all clubs. Not because of bias though, just because it happens.
That said we are having too many penalties in the game and there are big areas of inconsistency. Farrell's sin bin at Leeds compared to Joel's kick in the head would be a classic example. But there the ref followed the advice given by the RL, rather than the advice given by the Wigan fans!
But so many are given for stuff like not hearing a ref's call of 'held', or moving forward off the mark or whatever, and you feel that going back and restarting the game with a 'play the ball' at the right spot would be more a more appropriate response.
Perhaps something for the RL to look at?

Its supposedly Ganson or so HE says. Told someone that his first match back will be the Wigan v Saints game!!
We shall have to wait & see.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I Agree with you to a certain extent. I dont believe that Wigan are sole targets of the RFL or that they have a motive to make sure Wigan suffer in matches however i do believe that ref's are urged to keep penalty counts even.stevethegas wrote:In spite of some of the comments above the idea that we have "bent refs." on the Super League is both wrong and slanderous.

As i said before if one team gets a run of penalties you can guarentee that the other team will get a similar run later in the match and quite often we see what i consider "soft" penalties like Incorrect POTB or moving off the mark, things that happen throughout the match but are only picked up on from time to time. Its like they go off the theory if you give each team roughly the same amount of penalties they no-one can really complain.
Having said all of this i must say i have noticed negative bias against wigan in the term of bans etc, Wigan players often get much harsher punishments than others
