RL wise the RFL need to be tougher.
Even with fans, they tell me referees are afraid to come to Orrell because a lady wielding a walking stick gives them so much grief

totally agree. If I was a ref and anyone gave me any nonsense I'd be really strict on dissent. They must see how bad it is in football and be thankful Rugby isn't as bad but by letting things go they're making a rod for their own backs.platt-warrior wrote:I strongly believe the offender should be marched back 10 mtrs.I agree re sin-binning but at the moment nothing is being done to deter players from abusing the officials.
the later incident also involved Graham throwing his arms around and shouting but didn't see it on Sky, only live. I was baffled Graham wasn't called over having already been penalised earlier.Lil Feka's Dad wrote:With the Graham incident, Silverwood's changed his decision from a scrum to Wigan for a knock on (which was correct) to a penalty to Wigan for dissent - thus giving Wigan an advantage. I don't know the exact rule, but I can only recall a player being "marched back 10" for dissent when disputing a penalty.
I think the logic is, that awarding a penalty instead of a scrum is punishment for dissent. Once a penalty has been awarded (ie for a ball steal) the only way to increase the punishment is to award the other team territory - thus moving the penalty forward 10.
Graham had a hissy fit and maybe another ref on another day would have sent him to the sin bin, but personally I thought the incident later in the game involving Wellens & Wilkin was worse - Silverwood stopped the game to explain his decision, and once he finished talking they both hurled abuse.
I believe a captain should have the right to have a decision explained by the ref, but the increase in general abuse towards the referees by players is not good....That's my job!
