Thought Hoffman was outstanding, but still feel indifferent about Lima. He had no more impactthan any other forward and he was fended off by Wilkin when he went in by the posts to score.cpwigan wrote:We are going to have to defend Jeff because you know what is coming and he will get it every match. Hoffman and Lima were fantastic.

CP agree about Hoffman, he is sensational. Big Jeff though, he did miss a couple of crucial tackles, one imparticular when Roby simply handed him off and he looked absolutely knackered. Having said that, with just 30% or so possession in the second half, the entire team worked miracles in defence. Surprised to read Madges comments on sky text though. He said it was our defence that concerned him????cpwigan wrote:We are going to have to defend Jeff because you know what is coming and he will get it every match. I'd be more concerned with the way we allowed them so much second half possession.

A team can do nothing without the ball, and the percentage of penalties given away was decisive.
To me Jeff Lima was of very average impact on the pitch yesterday, little to shout home about, and some poor tackling too.
Lets not forget, we got rid of a pretty good prop forward last season, supposedly because his defense was deemed not good enough.
Re: Hoffman and Lima OUTSTANDING
I missed most of the second half seeing to my daughter but only saw Lima a couple of times in attack, Prescott seemed to do far more carries. Lima defended pretty well but didn't seem to be on that much from what I saw. Hoffman was fantastic.
Gareth Thomas before his first game: "You wanna spend 10 mins getting smashed up by these guys..Big dudes here.."

Re: Hoffman and Lima OUTSTANDING
sorry to disagree but i couldn't see what the fuss was with Lima,
he doesn't seem to scatter defenders the way Fekka did, perhaps he will get better with more games but the way everyone was going on, i was hoping for better.
We will bounce back from this make no mistake, just a shame Richards and Fielding are injured. COME ON WIGAN! am i being too critical? :exc: :exc:

Hoffman was superb,as for Lima being a Fielden type player, does that mean it will take him 3 seasons to play even a decent game?.He was average yesterday but no different than Coley or Prescott,Early days though and he must be given time.
Re: Hoffman and Lima OUTSTANDING
I thought Hoffman was superb. I didn't think Lima did all that much though to be honest. I thought Prescott was average as was Mossop. The latter made far too many errors and gave away too many penalties, as did Joel.

Couldnt agree more that Lima is not Feka.cherry.pie wrote:Lima isn't supposed to be scattering defenders! He's not Feka! Hopefully he will allow players like Fielden and Mossop to make more of an impact.
With the squad of forwards we already have, the majority are very workmanlike.
With this in mind maybe there is room for an impact forward, and most teams try to be carrying one. Iafeta filled that bill very well in my opinion.

OH, what have you got against Fielden???old hooker wrote:Hoffman was superb,as for Lima being a Fielden type player, does that mean it will take him 3 seasons to play even a decent game?.He was average yesterday but no different than Coley or Prescott,Early days though and he must be given time.
It didn't take him 3 seasons at all. His first season, or part of it, he galvanised our pack and along with Hocks return from injury, saved us from possible relegation. He wasn't at his best for the second part of his second season with us but neither was any one else and we did have the Noble factor. Fielden is a good un and so is Lima. If you disagree then you are just talking daft.
