Mo would sack him if this were true because it would mean less than half way through his three year deal he had been speaking to other clubs and had decided to leave. It's often said if someone wants to leave there is no point standing in their way and Mo took that view with Raper in that when he signed up with an Aussie club Mo helped him out the door!jacko32 wrote:titles still wrong though why would wigan sack him after what hes done who knows he might go to souths its funny how everyone knows someone when the chips are down.

Well that suggests Madge has known for a while he had an offer, had accepted it and was just waiting for the green light to tell Wigan.29wes28 wrote:More media attention from the other side of the pond.

If so I hope IL does do a Mo and sacks him.

Madge could not have accepted an offer before today. Until today, Souths would have had Wayne Bennett as their coach. He was always their first choice.DaveO wrote:Well that suggests Madge has known for a while he had an offer, had accepted it and was just waiting for the green light to tell Wigan.29wes28 wrote:More media attention from the other side of the pond.

I still don't want to think about it because if he does go it really screws up the three year plan we had. We just got a team and players signed up for Madge to coach as he wants and if he leaves an outsider may not be able to get this lot to perform as he has.29wes28 wrote:Little bit pre empt I know but if he does go who would people like to see replace him???

Lets not forget under Noble many of our current team looked pretty ordinary and a change of coach made them into a GF winning side.
So I suppose I am reluctantly answering my own question and would go for Wane in the hope the revived Wigan ethos seen under Madge can carry on. With an outsider there would be a huge risk it would not IMO.

No comment from Wigan as usual which leads to speculation
and rumours. Please! Please! Please! just tell us what is going on...it's not a state secret. As for Shaun Wane, not sure,..good solid player but doesn't mean he will be a good coach. It's a huge task :doz: :doz:

I know he could not but if you read the article South's talked to Bennett, gave up and went to Madge, then back to Bennett and now back to Madge. It seems as though Madge was first reserve and as soon as Bennett finally dropped out it was all already in place for Madge to simply sign on the dotted line.cpwigan wrote:Madge could not have accepted an offer before today. He has basically accepted the job on the proviso it became available quite a few weeks ago. If Noble had done this kind of thing he would not have got much support and if Madge has, he won't from me either.

WIGAN coach Michael Maguire is set to take over the reins of South Sydney as the club reverts to a plan that was put on hold late last week when Wayne Bennett suddenly revived his interest in taking charge of the Rabbitohs from next season.
Souths are believed to have been close to finalising a deal with Maguire after turning to the highly-rated former Melbourne assistant when months of encouraging negotiations with Bennett over the summer stalled abruptly.
However, talks resumed after Bennett announced he was quitting St George Illawarra at the end of the season, and the Rabbitohs were forced to delay signing Maguire - who last year steered Wigan to the Super League premiership in his first season as head coach.
The delay is believed to have caused some frustration at Souths as the club had moved on from Bennett after initially being firm favourites to sign him during the off-season. But when he again expressed interest, they were obligated to reopen talks with the game's most successful coach.
As a result, it is understood Maguire had not told Wigan officials of his intention to return home and coach the Rabbitohs next season. He was expected to do so overnight. An announcement on his appointment, which is believed to be for three years, may happen as soon as today.
The 37-year-old, who played 18 first-grade games as an outside back for Canberra and Adelaide Rams, is held in high regard by those who have worked with him at the Raiders and Storm, including Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy and Parramatta's Stephen Kearney.
Maguire was assistant to Bellamy, along with Kearney, at the Storm between 2004 and 2009 before leaving last year to steer Wigan to their first premiership in 10 years.
He has worked closely with star Rabbitohs centre Greg Inglis and English second-rower Sam Burgess said yesterday that Wigan players in last year's Four Nations squad had spoken highly of him.
''From the recent England camp, and before this whole Wayne Bennett-Michael Maguire saga happened, the Wigan guys were very positive about him and said he brought in high standards and had some good theories,'' said Burgess.
''You don't need the world's best coach to win the premiership … you just need to have the best set of players and team.''
Rabbitohs assistant coach Gorden Tallis, who played under Bennett at the Broncos, said missing out on his services was not a big deal for Souths.
''This is a club that I think had other coaches in the pipeline so the players … I don't think they were too worried at all,'' Tallis told Fox Sports. ''Some of them didn't want him to come, some of them would have wanted him to come - blokes that had been coached by him before. But this is a club who wants somebody to come here for the right reasons.''

Re: HAS MADGE BN SACKED????
Maybe this is what is causing the problems with Finches performance!
He may only have agreed to come here because Madge would be here!!
And maybe Wigan were sucked into "lets help out Melbourne's salary cap problem" because of Madge!!!
We'll take 3 players off their hands!!!!
If he wants to go, let him, it is no use having players or coaches who don't want to be here & do not want to honour their contracts

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
