As previously stated seems very strange to let an English lad go to sign an overseas player & a has been from Crusaders.
Not a very happy bunny at moment with this bit of business from the club

You are presuming that IFL didn't offer Freddie a contract or the contract was not as good as Hull's offer!Kittwazzer wrote:So this means Lauaki is coming to us? Prescott has certainly come on leaps and bounds this season but 18 months ago before O'Carroll's injury he was keeping Prescott out of the team. With a full pre-season he could easily challenge again in my opinion and in any case he is far more preferable to Lauaki.AdamMac wrote: O'Carroll isn't a patch on Prescott IMO. Lacks the size and from what we've seen of Prescott over the last 18 months o'carroll doesn't have his ability to pass the ball before the collision. Prescott is turning into a fine prop forward.
I am sure that will be part of it but the bit you are forgetting is the reason Wigan may not have been able to match the deal Hull gave O'Carrol was because we have signed Lauaki. A player few seem to want here or rate.shaunedwardsfanclub wrote:You are presuming that IFL didn't offer Freddie a contract or the contract was not as good as Hull's offer!Kittwazzer wrote:So this means Lauaki is coming to us? Freddie may have thought that moving to Hull gave him better first team prospects.
It is sad to lose players that have come through the junior system but due to the salary cap restrictions it is inevitable that players will move around.
Yes he was keeping him out of the team but I don't think he could have the game that prescott has got now but that's opinions for you.DaveO wrote:Prescott has certainly come on leaps and bounds this season but 18 months ago before O'Carroll's injury he was keeping Prescott out of the team. I'm very disappointed in him. Wigan have stood by him through 2 years of injury, searched the globe for a specialist to fix the injury that threatened his career, and now he's off to Hull for a longer contract and/or more money than offered by Wigan. Says "Ancient & LOYAL" on the badge that he doesn't want to wear any more.Speaking about the news, Head Coach Michael Maguire said: "The Club is obviously disappointed to be losing Eamon. Wigan did offer him a new deal but he has decided his future is elsewhere with the security of a three year contract and we wish him all the best."
That is possibly true. The point that I am trying to make is that the restrictions of the salary cap do not encourage all teams to develop young players. The one's that do should be rewarded in some way. We need to get all teams to develop a larger number of homegrown players and be given the opportunity of retaining them. Cas are a prime example of a team that develops young talent but they invariably do not see the benefit of their hard work (either in team improvement or their financial position). My suggestion was to provide some relief within the salary cap, another way could be to introduce transfer fees, or we could reduce the number of overseas players per team to say three.DaveO wrote:I am sure that will be part of it but the bit you are forgetting is the reason Wigan may not have been able to match the deal Hull gave O'Carrol was because we have signed Lauaki. I agree that indeed is another possibility.

But if we have signed Lauaki and used cap money on him there was surely nothing inevitable about this move?
You can't just blame the system here.
Eamon sustained his injury doing his duty by Wigan. Consequently I would expect Wigan to stand by him.We are not in the inner circle so are not really in a position to be judgemental of the lad.Of course it is sad that we are losing a solid player for the rumoured Luaki but to infer that he is being disloyal to the club is a bit of an insult to the lad don't you think? Most people in every day walk of life wish for an enhanced contract and better financial rewards so is it really surprising that he possibly took the better offer on hand? Of course I will miss the lad but I will wish him all the very best for his future and hope that he does not bite us by the hand on his return as a Hull player.Warrriors wrote:I'm very disappointed in him.
