You think the MOS needs improvement, given that he was voted for by his peers?
Do you not think you need a hole to swallow yourself up in after that comment?

Maybe your post should have said 'potentially cost us 350k to 750k', then I wouldn't have commented. The money being 'quoted' is ridiculous but at the moment they are very much rumours that until it is fact that a lump sum exchanged hands as for as I am concerned it is a waste of time bringing it up.El Bobbers wrote:I never said he had but they are the figures being quoted for a player who needs improvement just like Gelling and Lauaki, who, apart from wages cost nothing. Or do you think that is fair money for a player in need of 'development'??TrueBlueWarrior wrote:Neither has Chase yet!!El Bobbers wrote: Whilst I understand where you are coming from, neither cost £350k to £750k.

Read Pieateralex's comment and see if you need that hole? Or if you are struggling to find it I qouted it in my post.Wandering Warrior wrote:Bobbers

Scott Dureau or Michael Dobson.pieater-alex wrote:Rangi is poor in defence? It's an area of his game for improvement - like Lauaki, Gelling etc yet we still signed them? Speculation about who voted for who in the MOS running is just schoolyard gossip. Yes, Sam Tomkins IMO deserved the award over Rangi Chase but feck me I'm not going to hold it against Chase if he does sign for Wigan. What I will say is that Chase may not have deserved the award over Sam in my eyes BUT he certainly deserved to be in the top three alongside Sam & Roby.
So this is the benchmark we'll rate halfbacks on shall we? Whether the NRL come knocking for them. Well that rules out every single halfback in the league except for Finch/leuluai as no other halfbacks have been chased to the NRL.
Since when has what club a player plays for had any bearing on how talented they are? Jonathan Thurston played in the NRL side that finished bottom of the NRL in the same year we won the Grand Final - by your logic he's at a mediocre club earning a good wage. Jarryd Hayne is playing for the Eels who are at the bottom of the league.
Hell there was a time when no-one would touch Finch with a bargepole after he was sacked at the Eels and the Storm handed him a lifeline.
HELL when we signed Thomas Leuluai he was at a struggling Harlequins side earning a decent wage with the NRL not knocking on his door - that make him not good enough too?
Why don't you want him at Wigan? Because he won MOS instead of Sam Tomkins? Because the NRL haven't come knocking for him? Because he plays at Castleford?
What rational reason based on his rugby league ability have you seen that makes Rangi Chase not good enough for Wigan? And then after answering this, please could you offer some viable alternate halfbacks who are good enough for Wigan who we could sign.
He constantly runs across the line not at it flapping his right arm backwards to offer a drop off or passes the ball 1 out or dies with it.
That's all he has he is a 1 trick pony admittedly however he does have a very good short kicking game.
Now you may think all rugby players are grown ups and act all prim and proper well there not and they don't. Saints voted Chase so did Leeds and so did we the rest of the league was split.
It is however only my opinion yours can be entirely different
How can his pass selection be poor when he's top of the try assist chart? That's simply not true.
I've seen Chase play for Castleford many times. He's an exciting player and someone who I enjoy watching play the game. He's a class above his team-mates. I see him 'flapping his arms around' out of frustration. Telling his team-mates to stop standing stationary and offer themselves as a dummy runner to confuse the defence & create more space for him.
I'll ask again like I continue to ask Chase critics and have yet to get a response (at least related at all to my question) who would you sign in this league whose defence is top notch, whose passing selection is excellent, whose long kicking game is excellent who isn't a one trick pony & is evidently a far superior player to Chase based on these attributes (who also didn't win Man of steel last year as that seems to be in the criteria for the next Wigan halfback) ?
You've brought up the MOS point again but I fail to see why. Why hold it against Rangi Chase the fact he won Man of Steel last year? It's not his fault the league voted for him is it?

Alex I don't think we ever got that £250kpieater-alex wrote:Fair point. However I would argue that you get what you pay for. Rangi Chase is the current Man of Steel and the current England International halfback. Lauaki/Gelling - enough said.El Bobbers wrote:Whilst I understand where you are coming from, neither cost £350k to £750k.pieater-alex wrote:Rangi is poor in defence? The 750K figure is journalistic sensationalist nonsense.
350K is more realistic. Remember we still have the 250K from Joel Tomkins.

I accept his handling skils etc. are excellent but in my eyes there are a lot of questionmarks for even £350k and if we can buy him for that amount then we may well be able to buy a player just as good if not better from Aus. If they are willing to spend money they can open more than one door.
At the end of the day I would support him just as much as any other Wigan player but it is my opinion he is not worth risking with so much money involved.

Dureau would be my choice as he could/will be the successor to Richards in the kicking stakes.

I suspect Dureaux would be a lot of people's choice, however feel free to correct me if I'm wrong over the fact he signed at contract extension a few weeks ago, thus meaning big money transfer!

I suspect not as much as the figures being suggested for Chase, and even if it was £750K, I'd still rather have Dureau.Wandering Warrior wrote:I suspect Dureaux would be a lot of people's choice, however feel free to correct me if I'm wrong over the fact he signed at contract extension a few weeks ago, thus meaning big money transfer!
