Hadn't heard the story about him possibly signing for Widnes but suppose I couldn't blame him as he seems to have been waiting in the wings for a long time now, the injury he had didn't help with him getting a chance with our first team of course but I agree with you about his cross field kicks and would love to see him getting a decent chance. Somehow he just seems fated not to play for Wigan and keep expecting Wire to come a calling. Do you know if he has been recalled from Widnes by any chance?cherry.pie wrote:He had a very slow start but most Widnes fans I know have been quite impressed with him recently. From what I've seen of him he's been defending very well and in particular has made two or three try saving cover tackles.
One particularly impressive part of his game is his cross field kicks to the wingers. He's incredibly accurate with those which could be useful with Gelling and Charnley out wide.
I have heard that Widnes have already agreed to sign him for next year though, which if true should probably count against him making a return.
If Mellor has agreed to join Widnes next season then I think Wane should use O'Loughlin at 6 or play Hampshire or Williams. If Mellor is still without a contract then he should be recalled so he can play for a new deal with Wigan.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

FFS.... One things for certain, i would much rather see Rangi at 6 than see Lockers wasted there. It's as infuriating as seeing Sinfield there for the England team. He can put a few good pieces together, but he's not an out and out 6. He is however one of, if not THE best loose forward in the world, so why waste him there and leave us weak elsewhere, especially in defense.cherry.pie wrote:Nothing certain but from what I can gather O'Loughlin will be playing in the halves.OJ wrote:Hadn't heard the story about him possibly signing for Widnes but suppose I couldn't blame him as he seems to have been waiting in the wings for a long time now, the injury he had didn't help with him getting a chance with our first team of course but I agree with you about his cross field kicks and would love to see him getting a decent chance. Do we take a punt with our youth, will Rangi be coming? Will we be making a move for Dobson, Dureau, Brough, or A.N.other Aussie?... I don't know. But for the love of god please don't play Lockers at 6 unless its absolutely necessary. Anyone who thinks lockers will be a better 6 than the current man of steel and a thoroughbred standoff is frankly delusional.

Not sure Wire would come for him. IIRC, his dad is a scout for them and they were not happy that he signed for us. Some people once saw Mellor and Tomkins as the next long term GB half back pairing. Sadly, it looks not to be!

Not sure how I have managed to get credited with a quote of something I have not said but ignoring that yes, his dad is a scout for Wire and they were not happy that he chose to go with Wigan - that's my only reason for thinking he might be lured back there one day. The leg injury did him no favours at all as it took a long time to sort out and seemed to come just about the time he was looking like he might burst onto the scene and I just hope he gets a decent chance to show us what he can doKittwazzer wrote:Hadn't heard the story about him possibly signing for Widnes but suppose I couldn't blame him as he seems to have been waiting in the wings for a long time now, the injury he had didn't help with him getting a chance with our first team of course but I agree with you about his cross field kicks and would love to see him getting a decent chance. Sorry OJ. I'm posting from my BB. Multiple posts occasionally confuse!
Still, I agree with you. The lad has had abominable luck and I hope he is given his chance with us!

Re: Would you like to see Rangi Chase at Wigan?
Lockers is the best ball playing loose forward around, but the loose forward role isn't used as a ball player by the majority of teams currently. I agree that i would rather have him at 13, but i don't think our defence will suffer as Tuson or Farrell will play there and Lockers will defend wider. Its our attack that will suffer with a player more adept at ball running than ball playing coming in to the line.wiganwarriordave wrote:FFS.... Millward Declines To Discuss Absent Chase

Castleford Tigers
Castleford refused to explain the absence of Man of Steel Rangi Chase from their team that lost 40-22 to Leeds. The England stand-off was named in coach Ian Millward's initial 19-man squad but was missing from the team sheet amid rumours that he had been dropped for disciplinary reasons.
"I don't want to talk about Rangi Chase," Millward told the post-match media conference at Headingley. "I'm not here to talk about people who aren't here. I'm here to talk about today's game and the 17 players that played here. They're the people who represented the club today."
The former Maori international also continues to be the subject of much transfer speculation, with Huddersfield the latest club to be linked with a big-money move for him after Wigan last week ruled themselves out of the running for his signature. This latest development will come as a blow just days after the Tigers refused Daryl Clark's transfer request.

Whatever happens I get the feeling that Cas won't be his home next season.
