Could only happen in RL that it's own fans (whose sport gets very little media presence anyway) can kick up a storm about one of their own gaining publicity & media attention surrounding their game.

As Brian Barwick says on TV, League fans are their own worst enemies at shouting out positivety about the game they follow !
Sorry but thats not the same

Gareth Bale is 1 of 30 or more "known by everyone footballers", the likes of Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo, Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham the list goes on and on and on and on.

The problem is here ask someone to name a rugby league player and there is ONLY Sam who would be known probably to anyone past Birmingham. It seems like RFL are happy for Sam to carry every single bit of PR they can muster

I hope you are being ironic. Otherwise you and Wigan_forever1985 need to get room!

This exposure can only be good for the game and in turn good for Wigan. The problem is we need more superstars to market the game.

What else do you expect when we now have a media only interested in ramming football down people's throats these day's.

Even, our other National game of Cricket no longer get's the publicity of past year's.

The only time they are interested in other sports is whenever a person or team wins something.

No!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Nor anyone with half a brain. Can't even believe this crass thread took root.

In defence of his criticism v. Cas, a full back's mistakes are well exaggerated, compared to other positions on the field, and on attack we scored 2 tries just because of Sam's presence and movement in the line, even if the move by-passed him, such is his threat.

The problem for Sam is that some expect him to have 'blinder' in every game.

I have to say, living in Essex and working in London, the only place I see Sam is on the Sky Sports adverts for RL - or if he's playing. So no over exposure here, it may be different living in the town as no doubt you'll get bombarded with Wigan RL, General RL and Sky sports advertising, all of which will include Sam in some shape or form.

The only real time Sam is mentioned is when they are debating who should be in the England RU set-up.

Whenever I mention I'm a fan of Wigan (or RL in general) most of the people I talk to regularly reel off the off the following "Ah yes, I know Rugby League, Wigan are the team that wins everything aren't they? Ellery Hanley, Shaun Edwards, Martin Offiah - didn't they play?". What we are currently missing from the sport are stars that get into the national media, not just local media (for the right reasons) - and not just one, we need several, from different teams, to generate interest, even a vague acknowledgement, in the sport again.

All in all, the exposure is good for the sport and for Wigan, but we as a "RL family" need to do it more (even if it means promoting players from Leeds like Sinfield or Ryan Hall) especially in a world cup year.
