Re: goulding gone
Salray Cap is £1.82m this year, but to do that they've just scrapped soe exepmtions that basically allowed clubs to spend that much anyway. Salary cap only covers the top 25 earners in the playing squad though so I'm guessing any reported figures to shareholders will include all wages paid to the top 25, other playing staff and non-playing staff.

Re: goulding gone
Goulding coming or going is not the real issue. The real issue is that Wane sees Wigan as overwhelmed with talent ready to play centre
As for Thornley a lazy, slow and greedy centre with no talent. Fans posting videos of real centres like Inga on here do him a disservice, and then wanting fans to wait for this "development" of Thornley, as if he somehow will make some magical transition. Martin Aspinwall was a better centre than Thornley and he had a career spanning various clubs
Can Pettybourne play centre?? :baaa:
So basically Hughes and Tomkins are seen as possible first choice centres!Wane admitted he was disappointed to see Goulding leave, adding: "I've coached him for many years and I admire him greatly.
"He's a realist. We've got Anthony Gelling, Dan Sarginson, Iain Thornley, Jack Hughes and now Joel Tomkins: all of those players can play at centre.
"It's a very harsh club to be at - you need to be at your best all of the time.
"He understood where he was in the pecking order. If Darrell's playing out of his skin, he's always going to be picked, but it's very tough to be at the top of your game all of the time. He thought he would have a better chance at Hull KR."

As soon as a player plays a salary cap qualifying game he counts on the cap so you are not quite correct to say it only covers the wages paid to the top 25.markill wrote:Salray Cap is £1.82m this year, but to do that they've just scrapped soe exepmtions that basically allowed clubs to spend that much anyway. There was an allowance so you could bring in junior players of around £50K so a junior players (assumed to be low) wages would not take you over the old £1.65m limit.
That is one of the things gone and now it's all in one lump but it means all wages count.
Anyway we are talking wages over past seasons here under the old rules and there is no way the club shelled out an extra £850,000 on players wages over and above the salary cap limit of £1.65m.

Re: goulding gone
Very Harsh on Thornley, but every one has a opinion on players. He played well at the end of last season especially in the finals, dodgy first game (played out of position) and cost him a place in the WCC, but started to find confidence and form before he was injured ... Loads of contradictory statements in there! Smacks of the club being outbid but trying to come up with other excuses.TWO EYED WARRIOR wrote:http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/28125720
Wane on the centre position and loss of goulding
Not a good interview IMO and smacks of there being a money issue.
My take on things is this. It has been common knowledge that Goulding had signed elsewhere for some time. Goulding has always been the first choice centre under Wane and was never dropped until he told the club he was leaving. Sarginson and Gelling then play instead and Goulding is made to look unimportant to the team and no longer first choice. The club then announces the news 2 months down the line with all the spin it can muster that he is leaving and they dont need to replace him as they have others instead. Fans that blindly believe everything the club tells them then buy this and say that Goulding was no good anyway.

I don't think that Wane wanted to keep him as I posted earlier the new contract offer was less than his current one. Surely if Wane wanted to keep Daz he would have pushed IL to offer him more money and not let him leave.

Makes me wonder sometimes if some of you would like to go back to the dark days of the real tight fisted owner and the time when we did have mediocre players, won nothing and all the money from our club was going towards his precious football team to buy better players there.
Do you honestly think that signings such as Clubb,Sarginson et al are not at best steady "eddies" And where very underwhelming
Tight Fisted owner from years ago, Do you see the wood for trees ? What is IL !!
Whealan was guided by Lindsay so again your pointing the fingers at the wrong person, the club under DW splashed the cash on the like of Trent Barret / Fielden the last size able transfer by IL from my memory was Martin Gleeson who he paid Wire a fair sum of money for a very good centre.
If you want to watch a glorified U23s competition then be my guest, but mark my words those u23s whom are being groomed for 1st team success wont be hanging around if they dont get a decent contract like other clubs are offering.
You are obviously not aware of the goings on in a lot of clubs these days,a lot of BS is being given to players, a lot of promises that constantly get reneged upon clubs like Wigan are still trying to live off the name alone as it is "WIGAN"! sorry it doesnt work anymore, players want paying a decent salary not a tracksuit and polo shirt
lL seems to forget that playing for Wigan doesn't pay the electric bills!!!

What does each club get money wise off the sky deal, I know that the more games you have televised the more you get but is their a set figure that each club get per season.
Re: goulding gone
Wane has very little to do with contracts. he may say who he wants to retain but the actual money and contract is all up to Lenegan and Rads. If Wane didnt want Goulding he wouldnt have been offered a contract.gillysmyhero wrote:I don't think that Wane wanted to keep him as I posted earlier the new contract offer was less than his current one.
