Re: Matty smith
IMO he isn't quick enough for a half back type player. If you think about most of the top half backs past and present. They've all had/have that burst of pace to dart through a gap in the line, rob burrow springs to mind. Also he can't keep up with play when there's broken field running. How many times do you see him at the side of the player with the ball approaching the last defender as a pass option. Fanny McGuire got a pan load of tries just being able to keep up with broken play. I like Matty his distribution is good and his kicking game in general is good, but he lacks that yard of pace. I would like to see him have a go at 9 to give Micky a rest when he's goosed. Be a better swap than Powell.

Not personally!Bert's Medal wrote:Matty Smith, Josh Charnley & George Williams have all been receiving kicking tips from Jonny Wilkinson (lifelong Wigan fan).
It was done, so I've been told, by video as he was too busy to come to Orrell!!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

That would have been good to do it with them together. Also would have been a great PR opportunity.josie andrews wrote:Not personally!Bert's Medal wrote:Matty Smith, Josh Charnley & George Williams have all been receiving kicking tips from Jonny Wilkinson (lifelong Wigan fan).

Some folk are unreal. I have criticized him a lot in the past but so far this season we have played 2 games and he has had 2 very good games in which we have won both. What exactly do you expect from him? He has been taking advice from one of the best kickers ever to play rugby to improve his game and he still get's mobbed. Give your heads a wobble the ones who are on his back. I have criticized him because i wanted him to improve his game, he has improved his game so i am off his back, i think some of you should follow suit.

Apart from his kicking, which has been good so far, where else do you see major improvements in his game?Cherry_Warrior wrote:Some folk are unreal. Is our distribution and leadership not part of the issue why we struggle to get over the opposition try line.morley pie eater wrote:"OK, apart from his kicking, his distribution and his leadership, what has Matty Smith ever done for us?"Panchitta Marra wrote:Apart from his kicking, which has been good so far, where else do you see major improvements in his game?Cherry_Warrior wrote:Some folk are unreal. Re: Matty smith
Yes it is but is that all his fault? Correct me if i am mistaken but for his distribution we wouldn't have got over the line at all on a few occasions in the first 2 games.

Re: Matty smith
Credit for his conversions so far this season but other than that he offers absolutely nothing.
He had one or two good seasons with Green but other than that he really is killing our attack. Supposed to be one of the more experienced and leaders but doesn't offer anything.
No link ups with the forwards, none with the halfback, never takes the line on, no attacking kicks.
