Anybody want to offer some praise to this Wigan team and SW?

For a couple of years the speccies having been crying out to get us a kicker or a kicking coach. We get a coach, and win the game because of it.

Imagine what things might be like with an attacking coach The fans can't all be daft can they? I've seen some dour games in the last 45 years, but last night was up there with one of the poorest.

Great victory, and previously we lost those games, but it's simply not a good product to watch, from both teams. Yep it was wet, ball is notoriously poor to hold in wet, ( why do we stick with it other than money again)

Let's hope that better conditions will eventually give us better rugby, was very encouraged at start of season, a full week turnround won't do any harm either.

Tony Club is a total passenger in the forwards Isa and Sutton put him to shame with his time on the field and power running.

The after match review with lockers is worth watching explains why some of the last tackles options were not taking and the reasoning is actually pretty intelegent. Makes leeds fet use to the play so the commit to it later on which opens up the overlap.

It could explain in part why we always look better in the second half as the oposition is expecting the same tactic and we switch.

He was discussing the passing choices and it definitely made sense - but it doesn't explain the last tackle plays, i.e the kicks and kick set ups. Kicking wide to Hall again and again - and not even putting in particularly threatening kicks at that. The only time the kick to Hall seemed to work was when Bateman put one in. Williams has (or at least used to have) a devastating short grubber yet for some reason the tactic was to put tame kicks to their most dangerous winger who continually got them out of trouble. It just lets them off the hook and fails to build pressure. Right now we're winning in spite of our dire kicking game - which seems to have been the case for so many years now.

Well the kicking coach we had was an ex RU player. He has taught them to kick like they do in RU, high bombs. The ball is in the air that long any of the rest of the defending players can get to it!

Why not the grubber kicks? 8 times out of 10 the defending player will look up before he has got hold of the ball properly & will nearly always fumble the ball.

Tom Briscoe is a great fumbler of the ball but did we kick to him? Did we eckerslike! Straight to Ryan Hall every time. Thats like giving a pig cherries :sly:

Sorry but I disagree with "boring game" comments. I can understand dour, unspectacular or similar. But this game had guts, graft, determination, tension by the bucketful. I'd compare it to the 1st round cup match around 1988 when we beat Bradford at CP 2-0 in the mud (Joe Lyndon penalty).

Am I the only one who at times got bored going to matches in the 80s/90s when it was a case of how many we'd win by? I love to see a contest.

We made some errors and our kicking was poor, especially first half but I always felt we were likely to win. At the end we found an extra gear and Leeds couldn't - we deserved the win, if only we'd scored from Sutty's break!

I thought San P made a massive defensive contribution (watched him closely following the slating he gets on here). But Willie Isa was my MoM, another not good enough for some.

I'd gladly watch games like that every week - close, tense and won by guts and effort - though less errors, better kicking game and silky skills would be a welcome addition.

Boring, etci are phsychological expressions. And as such reflect a fans feelings about the game games have no phsychology at all. Wether you agree with people who were bored by the match is immaterial. You weren't bored by the game all well and good games per se are played and may bore or delight fans or whatever but the "feelings" are not in the game. Just saying

Some games just aren't a great spectacle to watch. Applies in all sports. It doesn't mean any grand conclusions can sensibly be drawn about the State Of The Game, etc.

Surely this is the inverse of the received wisdom? Surely, on balance, the higher a bomb the better, as it gives attackers the chance to compete for the ball? Defenders will be (more or less) already there; it's attackers to need to make up ground to compete. This is why Shaun Johnson (say) has a much better bomb than Tommy Leuluai (say).

I agree. If you want to watch boring watch the so called beautiful game.

Well I thought the game was boring, but this had nothing to do with the teams playing as I think both defences cancelled each other out.

Its the ref with the bloody whistle. mid way through the second half there had been 20 penalties. Everyone of these results is a break in play, stops momentum and leads to another 3 boring forward drives. Add to these where he gives knock on that didn't happen and then going to the screen to see who knocked the ball dead and we have a stop start dull game. He even pulled a forward pass in the second half that no one in the stands shouted for.

I had 2 blokes stood next to me from Leeds, it was their first live game and they kept asking why everything was being pulled up. They got bored during the second half and went for a pint, never to return.

Leeds are now complaining saying we slowed the play the ball down to much and the ref did nothing about it. What do people want 40 penalties a game. In the last few minutes Leeds were almost demanding a penalty to win the game, as they knew they couldn't score.

I really don't know where are sport is heading at the moment.
