Super League gets “greater financial certainty” in Sky TV revenue dealmorley pie eater wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 9:31 pm I appreciate what you're all saying, but no-one has mentioned that Cats don't get Sky money and we do. They have also had huge travel/accommodation costs to pay over the years.
At a time like this, our beloved game's very existence is under a very real threat. Isn't it a time to think beyond narrow club interests and consider the game as a whole?
If we end up with no Cats and Toronto, RL will look pathetic, and the "M62 corridor" jibes will be true.
English rugby league clubs still face UK£280k hit in revised agreement with broadcaster.
Clubs in the Super League, the England-based elite rugby league competition, have agreed a significant cut in TV revenue following the disruption to the 2020 season caused by coronavirus.
The 12 clubs are understood to be each taking around a UK£280,000 (US$344,000) hit from Sky Sports after a deal was agreed with Super League, national governing body the Rugby Football League (RFL) and the pay-TV broadcaster.
Premier League and Sky Sports settle Covid-19 rebate
Rugby league has been suspended since early March when the UK went into lockdown because of the pandemic, but while other sports are beginning to return to action, Super League is not due to start until mid-August.
Super League chairman, Robert Elstone, said: “Rugby league’s 25-year relationship with Sky Sports has been built on a genuine partnership that has never been more evident than during the Covid-19 crisis.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement which acknowledges the disruption to Sky Sports’ Super League schedules but gives our clubs greater financial certainty moving forward in these challenging times.
“Our resilience will continue to be tested – but we are grateful to Sky for their ongoing support.”
