I'd just like to point out that Wigan Warriors have a legal right to play at the JJB because they have a 99 year lease while Latics are allowed to play at JJB by Whealen and technically as they have no contract and are paying money have no legal right although can't see Whealan suing himself.

Wigan Warriors won't be kicked out of the JJB because Whealen wouldn't want to pay the compensation of what Wigan Warrior would have earned over the 90 years.

If the cricket ground get the go ahead there will be 3 main sport in Wigan, Rugby, Cricket and Football and hence I think there should be 3 stadiums.

The JJB Stadium for Wigan Athletic
A Cricket Ground for Lancashire
A Rugby Ground for Wigan Warriors & Orrell RU (not a ground share like at JJB but just let Orrell play some matches their)

If Whealan put some money into each project then he would be able to make some money for the advertising in each stadium.

I think in a few years a new stadium for Warriors could be a possibility if Latics stay in the Premiership Whealen would probably want the Stadium just for them and instead of paying to end the 99 year lease he would probably just put some money forward for a new Rugby Stadium.

If he wants to move anybody out ,he has to provide a stadium the same size and quality as the jjb cant see that happening :sly:

I'll have to correct you there. It doesn't have to be the same size. and quality Latics are averaging 21,000 this season. We'll only get that amount on once against Saints. A 15,000 stadium and playing our derbies at the JJB would be about right if Whelan wanted to spend his money prudently.

Where does it say that figure? I'm not disputing it, just wondering where you've got it from.
It seems like a very high number when the games I've heard about were only attracting around 6000/7000.
You've got to look at the last few years though, Latics have never attracted that many on average before, it's only because they're in premiership that they are doing. Of course, it's good for the town etc etc but move us out, spend needless money on a new ground and then watch Latics slip away and become a nothing team that have had their glory season and you'll see a regular gate of 3000 again. Then they won't need a stadium that seats 25000.

20,868 with around four home games to play, including Manchester United.

Average away support (at the JJB) is 3,500.

It's nieave to suggest Latics crowds will be back down to 3,000 in fuure years, the club are growing on and off the pitch. The club now has a premiership set-up that will continue to increase the supporter base and income. Even if relegated to the Championship, Wigan would still be in a very good position. Premiership footbal has simply accelerated what was always going to happen off the field.

And this growth has not affected Warriors either, completely different target markets.

Jewell believes the fact Latics are on the same pitch as United for the third time this season is testament to the progress made by the club.
And he's keen for them to keep taking great strides
forward and establish themselves in the top flight.
"Wigan can never be a Manchester United or a Liverpool, but we can compete at the top end with Charlton, Blackburn, Bolton and Manchester City," said Jewell.
"I think I'm only halfway through a job here, there is still a long way to go yet. I want to keep improving things, not just the team, but the club too.
"We need to improve the facilities, the image, I want to improve the players, the coaching and the scouting.
"You look at Bolton, Charlton and Blackburn, they're all doing well but went down from this level at one stage.
"I want us to do better than that, we have to become a better club, not just a better team on the pitch.
"We've come an enormous way in a short space of time and I don't want to be wasting that by resting on our laurels.
"It will all need investment and hopefully we can get that, improve, and move the club forward."

The JJB stadium was already under construction for Wigan Athletic before Whelan bailed the Warriors out.

Warriors won't be thrown out, as I understand it they would like their own stadium if at all possible. Who knows whats going to happen.

Only 6 months back there was the guy from Blackpool Pleasure beach showing interest in Warriors, with Whelan willing to sell, but they didn't put in a high enough bid.

The only problem with the ground sharing as it is at present is the state of the pitch at this time of year...they need to get that sorted!

If you look into it WMBC put in a huge amount of money providing botht the football and Rugby played there. Both teams have a 99 year lease as Whelan bailed both teams out....

Lets be fair Latics would be in the unibond without him

C'mon be realistic.
A stadium like the JJB needs to be ussed all year round and that is what is happening now.
I see no reason to change anything.
Whelan would be a very foolish man to do anything to harm the Warriors.
Why talk about moving to a smaller stadium ? What we need is to fill the one we have.
