Wigan Warriors’ John Bateman cited in Match Review Panel for curious incident

Following the Betfred Challenge Cup Final, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

Luke Yates (Huddersfield) – Grade A Dangerous Contact – 0 Match Penalty Notice
Luke Yates (Huddersfield) – Grade B High Tackle – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Morgan Smithies (Wigan) – Grade C High Tackle – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Morgan Smithies (Wigan) – Grade B High Tackle – 2 Match Penalty Notice

However, cited in amongst those was Wigan Warriors forward John Bateman for an incident which occurred in the 28th minute of the Challenge Cup Final clash against Huddersfield Giants.

The Match Review Panel cited the England international as ‘intentionally’ standing on a Huddersfield player. However, he has not been banned because “Player puts foot down and immediately feels arm under his foot and takes the foot away.”

Remarkably, for Huddersfield only Luke Yates was cited with no other Giants player called before the Match Review Panel.

It was a very tense and cagey affair throughout the final on Saturday afternoon as over 51,000 made their way inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time in rugby league.

So will Child get reprimanded & banned for a few games for not punishing them during the game??
My thoughts exactly. Trial by media. Disciplinary panel reacting to media hype. What with the “best team lost” nonsense and the level of coverage these tackles got post match you’d be forgiven thinking it was an orchestrated campaign to get him a long ban.

So Yates gets two matches for something Child didn't even penalise.

The charges for Morgan are both for a high tackle but one is a grade C 2 match ban & grade B 2 match
ban!!!

Why?? Two different grades?

they'll be looking at intent etc

for me, the first one catches Greenwood, but looked like he was trying to dislodge the ball - penalty, but nowt else. Ref wasnt giving anything until the Hudds players started waving their arms
2nd one, swinging arm, but bit of slap across the chops, credit to Leutele for just getting up and making nothing of it. Current rules, probably worth the 2 games, but not much more

Singleton knee to head (may just have been an accident) looked at ref nothing, Faz nothing, so why did he stop and take notice of the Hudds players?

One of the things creeping into the game at the moment is players "milking" the penalty, especially where the video ref can review the footage.

Not something we should be proud about.

There was absolutely nothing in the Greenwood tackle it slid up into his Jaw and then Greenwood played for the penalty I can't help but feel if Watson hadn't said something it wouldn't have gone further.

The second one deserves the ban I thought he had punched the guy at first and it was only the replay that showed he hadn't.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

100% agree they’re all at it and needs stopping.
