I agree they can't be expected to match our previous runs, but we can expect them to be as dominant as saints have been for the previous 5 years before last season we should be aiming to win most things during this five year period.Flash wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 12:30 pmI think the bit in bold is a bit harsh Mike. Those former teams didn't exist in a salary capped era. I'd say it's almost impossible to achieve what those sides did over nearly a decade! Saints were the dominant team in recent years and came nowhere near those achievements and I doubt this current Wigan side will either. NRL raids (something else that era had no problems with) will see to that.Mike wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 4:41 am It's as good as I've seen in the summer era. We've managed to build an amazingly good defensive side where almost every player has a serious attacking threat *and* we play as a team. It's up there with the Hanley era sides for me.
However, they've done nothing yet. 8 in a row is the standard ! I don't expect that in the modern game really, but they've got to win more trophies than they lose for multiple years to get on the same page as what's come before them. We shall see.
To hold all 4 trophies is a remarkable achievement. To win 2 trophies this season already, be 4 points clear at the top and with a good shout at the remaining 2 trophies will do for me!![]()

I don’t remember a time in the Super League era where I’ve sat thinking about our side and I’m struggling to think how we can realistically improve it (given salary cap constraints and the increased strength of the NRL) but that’s how I feel now. We have a fantastic backline, a great pack and loads of depth. There are loads of good young players around the squad, plenty of experience and plenty of lads in that in between age (around 22-26) ready to step up as older players move on.

Exactly this NK. Field, Marshall, Wardle, Smith, French, Ellis, Thompson and O'Neil are at or around the best in the league and couldn't realistically be replaced like for like. Then we have Harvard, Farrimiond, Walters, Nsemba and Hill who are probably the best in their respective age groups. Who offers better 'bang for buck' than Miski or Mago? It's just crazy! Credit to everyone at the club. There has been real vision around assembling this team.NICKYKISS wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 2:58 pm I don’t remember a time in the Super League era where I’ve sat thinking about our side and I’m struggling to think how we can realistically improve it (given salary cap constraints and the increased strength of the NRL) but that’s how I feel now.
