Turned on radio. First comment came through was under strength saints side. Always gets me. Wigan are never under strength.

Enjoyable game though both teams put in an effort I was worried that Clarke would push it saints way in the end but Eckesley... what a showing.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Cant knock the win.Defensively we are fantastic and although we weren't fantastic in attack we did what we had to do.Massive win without bevan, jai and the hookers and saints are still are biggest threat.Only one whinge is players staying down to get a pen( not part of rugby that lads, cut it out).Well chuffed for eckersley who was outstanding at fullback even though the commentary never shut up about saints no 1

When Bevan's fit then. he goes to 6 and Eckersley stays at full back.
That's as tough a game for a very long time.

Buzzing for Eckersley, Thompson and Nsemba had stand out games. this whole team just seems very well balanced and methodical. I think no small part of that is due to the culture around the club. the amount of heart the lads show on the pitch is a reflection of that!

Tense game, some mad ref decisions, quality efforts in defence, and some lovely tries.

Really disappointed to witness a full on punch up just before the canal bridge after the match - no need for it in our game.

I am absolutely sick of players staying down to get the video ref involved, 2 weeks running Ellis has done it.
The only way to stop it, is for the video ref not to get involved, other than for try decisions, otherwise it's going to happen more often.
It's getting like the pantomime that is football.

Awesome effort tonight from Thompson, Havard, Ellis and Faz. 80 minutes of carrying it in hard and tackling pretty much everything. Havard was immense in the middle and his efforts put Mago to shame. If Matty only has faith in him for a fourteen minute spell, he needs to take a long hard look at himself. It’s all well and good having a cameo performance against teams in the bottom half but we need all the forwards firing in rotation in the big games.
With Bevan out for a couple of months, we need all of the forwards to raise their game and dominate teams to take some pressure off our young lads in the backline.

Also, Walters still not up to speed yet. We lost effectiveness on the right side when Junior went off.

Having said that, really enjoyed the game tonight. A derby is always better under the lights and the atmosphere in the ground was great. Well worth the long drive north this afternoon. Here’s hoping Bevan gets back a bit sooner than the predicted 2 months :o

And, how good was Eckersley? A real talent and another for the academy to be very proud of. Nice to see him outshining the golden child from over the hill.

This team we have at the moment are a special group. We’ve got lots to be very excited about :D
