GF tickets
Re: GF tickets
Hi,
Question on public transport options from Old Trafford.
I live in London, so heading up on the train on Saturday then catching up with family for the rest of the weekend who live in Appley Bridge.
Haven't travelled back from OT to Wigan by train after a game before so looking for some advice from anyone who's done the trip before on best place to get a tram or bus outside the ground, how long to plan for wait times etc.

Re: GF tickets
Wharfside is where we get the tram. Closer and less busy than Old Trafford. I've also done bus from central MCR in the past. Walked almost straight onto the tram last year, have queued for 30 mins plus at the cricket ground.
Re: GF tickets
I was thinking of getting the train/tram, but I've been put off by talk of station closures and cancellations, which are all over the thetrainline site. I may be reduced to driving. I have a parking 'spot' I've used before. There's always the coaches, but trouble is, I find, they arrive hours before the game, it's a long time kicking your heels waiting, and you don't get back till late.

Good luck with that one

you may get a train to Wigan if you are lucky (they cancelled all trains back to Wigan until about 10.30 last year), and there are no trains running on one of the lines through Bolton (due to electrification works)
trying to assist though, but i wouldnt hold my breath that these run going off how bad they've been generally
Oxford Rd - 21.14 and 21.30 to Wigan
Piccadilly - 21.44 to Wigan (1 change)
Oxford Rd - 21.46 to wigan (2 changes)
rest rail replacement
Looks like Chorley could be your best bet with a train every 30 mins from Manchester Piccadilly from 21.00 through to 23.30
personally i've decided to drive after the issues we've had on the local trains over last couple of years, and coaches are starting at £17.50 (may just be me being tight) which seems steep when they went to Salford for £12

Re: GF tickets
thats one of the options we've considered but would be bus to Leigh, V1 / V2 out, and then work our way to OTFirestarter wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 10:47 am Its looking like the v1-v2 bus from atherton for us.Real pain with the trains as per
i know the V1/V2 are pretty reliable as we've used them to get into Manchester before, but its going to be a good couple of hours each way
trains are def out, bloody nightmare
one option i do have is to park at our office in Manchester, but its over near the Etihad, so wrong side and get the tram across

Th'old V2 made me laugh! It's 58 years since I lived in Hindley Green, and th'old 32 passed our front door. Lancashire United Transport, based in Atherton. Manchester to Wigan via Atherton and Hindley. Stopped at alternate stops.ancientnloyal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 11:50 am Th’old V2 from Atherton

Their red buses were Guys with an Indian chief on front with "Feathers in our cap" round the chiefs headband. (Indian being Red Indian, nowadays known as Native American.)
Wigan Corporation buses only made it as far as the Bird i'th Hand.
