He’s been a very very good value for money player for us in his 6 full seasons in the first team.
Yes, he’s been a good servant to the club & was the ultimate Warrior in 2023, carrying an injury for the last several weeks of that campaign.
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Is he now subconsciously going to be trying to avoid injury and the potential scrapping of his new deal? He's got nothing to play for this season now, it's all downside for him Given the potential for that we should be watching very closely and drop him down the order if anything like that sneaks in TBH. Maybe a loan deal with a recall clause?

i think it will depend on his personal values as an individual
KPP knew he was going to Australia for a full season before he went and played outstandingly for us all season (bar a spell injured if i recall correctly), however, many felt that Oliver Gildart didnt put it in for us as he was looking after himself for his move

we'll also see where Matty Peet see's him if he's not on the bench, and Hill, Dupree and Mago are our bench rotation, but equally it is going to be a balancing act. We will need him at some point(s) in the season through injuries and suspensions, so need to have him motivated to play, but we also need to be thinking about our future, and ensuring that Hill / Makin get enough game time too

We should also look to use up his full 'allowable' minutes for this season to give those who will be here beyond this year a rest, ready for the end of the season and not to have any restrictions next season.

Didn't we get rid of Scott Taylor to Salford for a season as soon as we found out he was signing for Hull?

Just playing him slows the natural development of those coming through. Why should wire benefit from us keeping him in the first team squad when he's 4th or 5th choice? Way I see it, Hill is ahead of him now by default

My guess is that the move is driven more by the club than by Byrne. It suggests that we see Harvie Hill becoming a regular in the squad by the 2026 season. Someone has to go.

Agreed and in all honestly Bryne is the right choice.

It's the timing I don't understand.

I cannot believe that it won't impact him as a player. Maybe a loan deal is already set up?

The timing is down to the new transfer rules.

Could you elaborate? There are that many new rules etc in our game that I must have missed this one.

Yes, i posted about it earlier in the thread

Players who are out of contract at the end of this season, are now allowed to speak to clubs (and vice versa) much earlier. Previously it was around August time (i think but not sure of exact date), but it has now moved to the 1st December. So in theory Liam has been speaking to Wire and other clubs for best part of 2 months securing his future for next season

as with others it doesnt feel right that he plays with us for 12 months whilst knowing he's at Wire next season, but equally players who have signed NRL contracts have been in the same boat, and we've had mixed fortunes with them

the reference to Scott Taylor is a good one, but i think from memory he forced it a little more and wanted to go back to Hull for personal reasons so the loaned him out instead of having the disruption within the camp
