I don't think there's been any refing controversy. Yes its annoying when our good tries go up to the VR, but they got the right decision each time. Nothing ruined as far as I could see.
I agree that the decisions were all correct.

The only thing I would agree with though is that the fitter teams are penalised with the video reviews. Gives the less fit teams time to catch their breath.

I agree with Mike on this one. The danger is that fans can become ref watchers. I did it more today because of the controversy over penalties.

It makes me think of lad I know who's a Rhinos fan. He has a photographic memory of every refereeing decision. One time we came back from holiday and met him at the bus stop in Leeds. Leeds v Wigan had been played that day. He asked me what I thought of the game, I pointed to our cases and said I hadn't seen it.

For the next 20 minutes, he listed every wrong decision the ref had made!!! All went against Leeds of course.

I've said before that I learned a lot from a bloke (a Wigan fan) at CP when I was about 13 or 14. I was ranting about a ref's decision. - "That was never a try!" - and he just said "Look in tomorrow's paper, son".
Saying this doesn't get away from the fact that the Video Ref is being used far too often and takes too long to make a lot of the decisions
The only one that took a while today was miskis. Tell me that was an easy one that you could tell straight away one way or the other. In fact everyone that could tell straight away said no try and it actually was one. Took 90 seconds or something. Big deal. Injuries can take longer than that.
I thought Thaler did well with Miski’s try to overrule the refs decision of No Try. Well done Mr Thaler 👏🏼 it takes a lot to overrule a refs decision.

The interviews on Wigan TV are usually dreadful as they're usually conducted by a young woman who frankly doesn't seem to do any prep whatsoever. Peet was interviewed by Stewart Frodsham after the Hull game though and gave some deeper insights into the refereeing frustrations.

Just watching full game on Wigan TV.

Who is this commentator with Barrie Mac? He’s bad enough but this other guy sounds like he’s got a gob full of pops!! 🥴

And they never stop prattling on!

Put a 🤐 or a 🧦 in it FFS 🤦‍♀️

For the record, according to the Sky stats we lost yet another penalty count. 9 - 4 this time so, if confirmed, they got more than twice as many as the team that just beat them by 3 times their score!

On to the time being taken for these decisions; they got the right decisions but are taking way too long to get there. The video ref suspected the Miski try was legit on the first time the played the reverse angle. If you listen he's pretty much decided within a minute or so that it's a try. He then takes a further 4 minutes or thereabouts to confirm this. That was just ridiculous.

My first instinct was "no try" but realised it was a try pretty much straight away. I then spent the next 4 minutes shouting at the TV to "just award the try for God's sake!" I'm sure I wasn't alone.

Either use the NRL system or set a limit on the amount of review time. Say, 1 minute. We can do the shot clock for other aspects of the game and this is far more intrusive.

Ref gives a try, the players get in to their positions and the goal kicker starts to line up his shot, all why the VR is silently looking at replays in the background. He confirms the try and we crack on or if he finds major doubt, it's looked at in a bit more depth and usually turned over. It's so much more streamlined and a far better experience for the viewers.
I agree. The Aussies have got it spot on. The Miski try took forever to come up with a decision. Thaler decided he hadn't gone into touch 2 or 3 times, but kept on looking at it again and again. So frustrating for everyone concerned.

It’s the try/no try which needs to be got rid of & the ref just say "I’m not sure will you check?"

As people have said the technology is not up to date & too slow. Even the bloody thing that goes from left to right, what’s the point? Just put up try/no try/inconclusive or whatever. It’s not exciting watching an arrow going left to right IMO!

And another thing,I’m sick of coaches, players, pundits keep saying “Wigan slow down the ruck"!

All teams do it during a game. You’re not telling me we are the only team ‘holding down’! Bloody hell some players need an alarm clock to get up & take it to the very limit or over!

You’re bang on Morley about fans becoming ref watchers but something has to be done about the time taken it is killing the game, the bunker works down under because they are quick and the game can carry on but this situation has got out of hand.

The captains challenge for me was a stupid idea that’s been badly implemented get rid.
Captains challenge is in the NRL too I believe.

I think the main complaint here is not the decisionw being made, but the time taken. So to solve that we need more money to upgrade the tech available. Seeing all th angles totally in sync, worked by the trained refs not the TV director etc. So that's part of the negotiation for the next deal IMO.
You’re right about the captains challenge Mike but I’m going to say it it dumbs the game down because for the most part the refs get it right(as they do mostly here as well)but again you’re spot on the NRL has the cash to splash and have more cameras it seems to cover most,if not all angles,we have Derek and Clive, the work experience boys and a couple of go-pro’s to cover the game here and this is what’s leading to these ridiculous delays.

It can’t be allowed to carry on because it’s terrible at the ground but on tv it’s insufferable
