Think you may be right about Australia, but don't lets start kidding ourselves that we are well known anywhere else bar Aus and NZ maybe.
The tide has definitely turned towards the Latics unfortunately.
I travel throughout Europe with my job and wherever I have been this year people are mentioning the Latics when I say I come from Wigan.
It got that bad toward the end of their season, I started to say I was from Manchester.
I suppose we have to give it to them, they have had a fantastic season.

rugby league isn,t played in n.i.but people who are interested in sport here will associate wigan with rugby.theres people in my work who take the p*** out of me when we get beat,they probadly don,t know what colour we play in but they all know wigan is a rugby town

...because it's simple to understand and easier to follow, thus requiring less thought on the part of the spectator. It's also easier to play on the corner of your street without getting your arms and legs cut to shreds on the tarmac.

I think it helps that their ball is round when there are just a couple of you having a kick about.
There's nowt more annoying than the bloody thing bouncing all over the place when you fail to catch it and have to peg after it.

Well I never, I thought this site was a RL only site, and all mentions of The Latics or Football were frowned upon, and the authors sent to the gallows.
