Because Wigan generate too much money for everyone in SL,not just in away fans through the turnstiles, but in sponsorship and advertising. It doesn't matter that we are bottom of the league, and I don't care what other fans say(PnB),Wigan is still the biggest name in British RL,and SL can't afford to be without us.
I don't think any sponsorship deals or the Sky deal expire at the end of this season so they have no leverage to tell anyone SL or the RFL to extend the league just so Wigan are in it.

The only money SL will loose next year if Wigan go down is gate recipts for some, but not all, matches.

Sky may loose some advertising revenue but even that is specultion. They don't televise Wigan all the time as it is.

If HKR come up they will take a fair few fans to Yorkshire sides and the Hull v Hull KR derby will pull in more than Hull v Wigan. Hull will be better off if we are replaced by HKR!

The extended size of the league will, as I already pointed out, actually cost teams four games revenue compared to the current format. That won't be made up for by one visit a season from Wigan.

They will be worse off if Wigan stay up in a 13 team league, simple as that.

The notion we are indespensable because of the cash we generate for SL is a none starter as the figures don't add up.

Will we go down when we finish bottom?

Most defiantly. I have read the official line somewhere.

If Wigan finish bottom they will go down.

superleague will carry on very nicely with or without us, and anyone who thinks otherwise is quite frankly, "on another planet"

The sooner we get 14 teams in super league the better. I ask the question why some teams should play leeds three times (us!) and some other team should play castleford three times. I know we have lost twice to castleford but i know wich one i would prefer to be up against
depends where in last year's competition a team finished.
Teams who finished on an even numbered position play their extra games against all the odd-numbered teams, and vice-versa.
Yes, we get Leeds three times, but not Saints, for example.
Also, to keep the same number of fixtures, it would need to be a 15 team league, not 14.

But it would be simple to come up with a formula for playing certain teams 3 times to give us a 28 game season, wouldn't it? :doz:
Must admit I heard this rumour last week (was it in the RL press?) but thought better of posting it with my "Millward to Leigh" rumour hanging in the balance!! Tony Benson isn't too happy with the proposal, I believe. :o

If this comes off then there will be uproar. If Wigan are allowed to bank roll themselves then would they still be under the rules of the salary cap etc?

But from reading the initial post it is clear that this isn't Millward's idea. He said "I a reliably informed...". How does that make it a Millward idea? H is clearly stating that the idea originated elsewhere. Still, why miss an opportunity to bag him?:conf: :(
