Solomona agent has talk with Wigan!

I'd say his agent would definitely have spoken with Wigan at some point, considering he also works for Vaealiki and i think Moran, possibly a few others.

It seems as though your rumour mill runs just as fast as ours. If someone has even been in the same area as the club then they must be signing
Same area? Not even that. Think of a rugby player that's on the same planet as Wigan and we'll get linked to them. Admittedly most of the names do end up moving somewhere, but only about 1 in 20 rumours have any substance.

But you're right about the agents, they all represent lots of players so if there's one of their players available, people will start to think we're also talking about other players they represent (and maybe we are, who knows...)

But you're right about the agents,
I think agents in RL are starting to behave as they do in soccer. They make money when a transfer goes through either from a cut of the fee, being paid some sort of "head hunting fee" from the club or as a cut of the players increased wages.

It would not surprise me in the least if it was Solomonas agent who put the idea into his head to ask for a move having sounded out a club or two e.g. Bradford.

Solomona had said often enough how he was very happy at Wakefield but he has now gone back on his words (which is why the Wakey fans are so upset) and has requested out of a long term contract.

It would also not surprise me if the reason we are linked with Lulu is down to his agent telling him he could get him fixed up at Wigan on a bigger contract and so it was the agent (Happy Frank I think) who instigated the whole thing months ago using his Wigan contacts.

A pal of mine in the amateur ranks (who has good professional contacts) assures me that agents are constantly touting their players around, presumably with the full consent of the players.

RL clubs are not allowed to talk to players directly (unless clubs give their permission), for much of the season, but this doesn't stop the agents doing spadework on the players' behalf all-year-round.

It's also worth remembering that few, if any, of these agents have any kind of loyalty to RL. To them, RU is just as viable an opening for the men on their books, and many young RL players are these days being advised (often by men who are like mentors to them) about opportunities on the Dark Side.

They are saying on the Harlequins board that Solomona has signed for them (RLFans) they say it has been confirmed but not announced (work that one out).
I'm not to bothered about him to be honest i think we could strengthen in other areas personally.

If this turns out to be true, with all the other signings Harlequins have so far managed to get under the salary cap, all I can say is that I wish the Wigan-born guy running them was running us.

I really think that contracts need to be much more solid. I don't think any coach would want a player at their club who doesn't want to be there as it would destroy the feeling in the camp. But surely there needs to be some big changes made so that players can't go well i'll sign this contract and when i find something better i'll just get a release. It's ridiculous the way players are chopping and changing clubs these days, in both SL and NRL. Same goes with coaches, how can anyone do a good job when there's someone standing over them threatening the sack.

As for agents, there are definitely many that only see the dollar signs (or pound signs over there ). Some do honestly have the players best interest at heart but they're few and far between. Just a quick example, PJ Marsh started out at Parra and when his contract was up in 2002 his manager/agent started talks with the Warriors. PJ told his manager he was seriously considering the move which the guy then took that to mean yep i'm going there. His manager actually signed the contract for him without PJ's knowledge and so he ended up at the Warriors for 2 years. There were a lot of dramas but the contract was binding even though he himself hadn't signed. Fortunately he came back to Parra once his contract ran out.

On another note, i wouldn't be surprised if Solomona had thought of coming to Wigan, as he and Vaealiki have been best mates since way before they started playing. I suppose with Vaealiki only having a year left on contract it wouldn't have been enough of a lure though. Anyway i've babbled long enough.
We'll miss you Freshy!!! Please come back!
