I didn't say anything to the contrary. Of course they tire as the half goes on and are likely to make more mistakes.cpwigan posted:
I disagree with you Rob re referees. I am convinced that every referee is getting fatigued as the game progresses and that as fatigue sets in they give less decisions and some make more mistakes. My impression is that referees award far more penalties in the first 20/30 minutes and that the team that controls possession in that period will gain a huge advantage. I would be interested to see the stats for when referees award penalties.
I also agree that most penalties are awarded in the first 20 minutes. At the beginning of the game the referee gets an idea of how the game is going to be played and will give penalties so the players know how the game will be officiated. Very often the players learn what will not be tolerated and tidy their game up, hence there being less penalties late on.
As for yesterday, I don't think Silverwood was tight enough early on with sloppy play and as a consequence he couldn't penalise sloppy play for the entire game.
You can always name examples of where we were penalised for something borderline and the opposition got off with something apparently blatent. It works both ways though, there were several times yesterday when we were miles away from being square and got away with even making a tackle and yet they were penalised for some similar but marginal infringements.
